As I’m sure you know, the vision of Carousel Creates is to give us all a place and the space to write. Looking out at the view, even in winter weather, I’m surrounded by inspiration and encouragement here at Carousel Writers’ Centre.
However, there are times when I need more than inspiration. I’ve found a place where I love to write; now I need to combine that with actually getting some good writing done! And to do this, an emerging writer like me often needs practical help & advice.
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht (DAHG), Jimmy Deenihan launched the programme together with Jane Alger, Director of Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, Margaret Hayes of Dublin City Libraries (also Chair of Dublin City of Literature) and Vanessa O’Loughlin from Writing.ie.
This resource, funded by the DAHG is available free of charge to all. It can be found on the Writing.ie and Dublin UNESCO City of Literature websites and the DVD is available to borrow from libraries across the country. To accompany the DVD there are pdf.s free to download from Writing.ie
The 3 sessions are led by successul published Irish writers Carlo Gébler, Sinead Moriarty and Declan Hughes. The sessions are 1. Start Writing, 2. Telling the Story and 3. Revising, Rewriting & Overcoming Obstacles.
I am delighted that this resource has been developed and is available free of charge. Ireland’s wonderful literary heritage continues to be in safe hands thanks to the Dublin UNESCO City of LIterature and Writing.ie
The team at Carousel Creates encourage all of their writers and writers everywhere whatever stage you are at, to check out the NEWP.
On TVAM yesterday morning (Jan 15th), Sinead Moriarty (who has published 8 novels!) said that she herself has learned a lot from the other two contributors in the programme. So no matter where you are on your writing journey. I’m sure you will learn plenty and it will fuel your writing.
Vanessa O’Loughlin joined Sinead Moriarty on TVAM and when talking about each person’s story noted the importance of “getting it down on the page and then shaping it.” She continued, “Every story has merit!” SO, if you’re looking for quiet reflective space to tell your story, somewhere to take the tools of the NEWP and put them into practice – well then come up here to the Dublin mountains.
As a Carousel regular I can vouch for the great views, great atmosphere and great coffee. And I can’t wait to dive into the NEWP and see what I can come up with.
Details of Carousel Creates retreats and the weekly Writers’ Cafe can be found on the website
The National Emerging Writer Programme will provide you with the tools, Carousel Creates can provide you with the place to put them into practice… what are you waiting for? 🙂
